Originally from Kansas and fishing from the age of 5, family trips for Bass, Crappie, and Catfish built a fishing fire into Lael that still burns today. After a location change from his time as a medical professional, he relocated out West, where he now owns and operates flygyde.com. A Seattle based Salmon & Steelhead guide service and destination travel outfitter. Trading the Midwestern Lakes and Reservoirs for free-flowing rivers on the Olympic Peninsula is what brought a Spey Rod into Lael's hands where he has never looked back.

Most of his days spent on the water are within the boundaries of the Olympic National Park, where he is teaching guests the art of Spey. Lael has also found time to be behind the lens, capturing the park, his favorite destination, and Patagonia's beauty. He is an avid Salmon and Steelhead fly tier and is frequently a featured tier at local shops, clubs, trade shows, and in print as well. Lael is a senior content contributor for the fly fishing magazine, The Steelheader's Journal, and is an ambassador for several brands, including Filson Clothing, Islander Reels, & Benchmade Knives.
