Dax Messett has been fly fishing and guiding for more than 25 years and is deeply rooted in the international fly fishing community. His career has included work as a professional guide, instructor, lodge manager, travel host, and industry strategist. In recent years, Dax has also focused on sales representation and brand development, bringing hands-on product knowledge and on-the-water experience to the industry.
Dax has guided extensively throughout the American West, including California, Oregon, Washington, and Montana, as well as in Alaska and New Zealand. He regularly hosts trips to destinations such as British Columbia, Bolivia, and Louisiana, along with specialized saltwater travel focused on flats species like permit and tarpon.
In addition to guiding, Dax is a published writer and photographer whose work has appeared in outlets including The Drake, Fly Fishing Journal, and Chasing Silver. He has also appeared on industry podcasts, television programs, and fly fishing films.
Based in Medford, Oregon, Dax now focuses his guiding on the rivers of the Pacific Northwest. He specializes in swinging flies for steelhead on the Rogue, North Umpqua, and Klamath rivers, and also offers technical dry fly guiding on Northern California’s Fall River, with a strong dedication to traditional fly fishing methods.
