I like the overall size of the tool but don’t like the “through the handle” shaft that sticks out of the end of the handle. It rotates weird in my palm when I’m using it. A basic handle would have worked just fine.
This whip finisher has nice features such as the colour, longer hook tip and thread cutter. However it has a serious flaw in the softness of metal used. After one week of use my threads started to snap. Having discounted the possibility of a bad spool (it happened on different spools) I realised that the power silk I had used 3 or 4 times had cut a groove in the "elbow" which subsequently frayed every other thread. I received a replacement from the retailer and the exact same thing happened. I dont tie with the power silk all the time but I reckon 2 or 3 whips destroy the metal on this tool. Very disappointing, I've gone back to using a cheap and cheerful whip finisher.
I am all thumbs when it comes to the Whip Finish and have struggled with this for years with other tools I have tried. The Loon Ergo Whip makes this an absolute breeze to whip finish anything from a size 22 to 8/0 streamer! Best whip finisher I have ever used!!
Wow I just paid more than this for the same whip finisher at Davidson River Outfitters! I guess I should know better to look directly at Loons website from now on. You'd think you had more control over your dealers pricing!
This is a great tool. Very easy to use. Thank you for a great product
I’ve done my whip finishes by hand for 35 years, but some joint problems have made it harder to do. The Ergo whip finisher is a great tool. I especially like it for finishing flies with lots of material right up to the hook eye.
