UV Fly Finish is the colored UV resin companion to UV Clear Fly Finish and does exactly what you want it to do: instantly provide color and complexity to flies. The “Hot” colors are perfect for adding hot spots and trigger points, providing a subtle glow. Lighter colors offer a life-like translucence, presenting the opportunity to build flies with a depth that couldn’t be achieved otherwise.
Been using the clear all the time but the tinted finish is great. No more magic markers before whip finishing, just to easy. Thanks Loonies.
Have tried many other products but I consistently grab the Loon bottles on my tying desk. Especially love the new red colored resin for hot spots.
I'm glad they finally came out with colored resins. These work great in all sorts of applications.
I've been using the clear UV Resins for awhile and am very happy with them. The clear resins work well on beads, fly bodies and fly heads. I'm using the colored resins for both bead highlighting and for fly bodies. The issue with the tackiness of the colored resins is a deterrent. I will try David's process of top-coating with flow and see if I like the results. Top-coating with hard as nails works but the drying time and smell are a deterrent.
I have used a bunch of different UV resins in the last several years. I started with Loon thick and thin resins. I really liked them at first, but over time found the tack to be undesirable. I would wipe with isopropyl and top coat with head cement, but didn’t love the extra steps. I tried other brands some were not tacky, but would be too brittle or have other undesirable characteristics. I’m back to Loon. The tack is easily dealt with by top coating with Flow. Flow also works very well as a head cement. I just started using the colored resins and couldn’t be happier. They are easy to use, look great, and dry tack free. I got several colors and will eventually have them all.
