MONO EYES
DESCRIPTION
In this quick fly tying tutorial, Hogan Brown from Loon Outdoors shows a simple method for making mono eyes for crab, crayfish, and shrimp fly patterns.
There are plenty of techniques out there for building your own fly tying eyes, but this is one of the fastest and easiest ways to create durable, realistic mono eyes using just 20 lb Maxima, a small glass bead, and UV resin.
These eyes are perfect for a wide range of crustacean patterns, including crab flies, shrimp flies, and small crawfish imitations. The small glass bead combined with UV resin creates a clean iridescent bubble effect that looks great in the water and adds realism to your flies.
One of the best parts of this technique is how quick it is—you can make dozens of sets at once and store them in a small bag so they're ready whenever you need them.
